Situation Overview

The Muslim Co-operative Bank Limited, Pune (MBank) serves around 2 lac depositors across 26 branches, offering loan facilities to the middle class for automobiles, small trade, housing and shop loans, consumer durables, education, and corporate lending. Having implemented a core banking system roughly five years prior, MBank found itself constrained by a technology foundation that was never built correctly in the first place — prompting a full re-evaluation of its CBS provider.

Testimonial from Bank Leadership

"Our bank's dream was to provide all our customers with the freedom of doorstep banking and secure funds transfer. TrustBankCBS has all the capabilities to cater to any new challenge for its customers."
Azim Shaikh
IT Manager, The Muslim Co-operative Bank Limited

Challenges

MBank’s existing core banking software was undermined from the outset by poor implementation:

Incorrect, incomplete data migration during the original CBS rollout

Faulty data structure and data modelling, which led to fragmented data across the system

Unreliable operations reporting makes it difficult for the bank to get an accurate view of its own banking operations

Lapses in statutory compliance reporting are driven directly by the underlying data quality issues

These weren’t surface-level issues; they were foundational, meaning any new system would need to prioritise data integrity from day one rather than simply migrating the same flawed structure forward.

Solution Provided

After several rounds of demonstrations and evaluation to judge product suitability and scalability against MBank’s growth plans, the bank selected TrustBankCBS, persuaded in large part by Trust Fintech’s firm commitment to proper Master Data Management during migration.

To ensure clean, accurate data from the outset, Trust Fintech deployed dedicated MDM tools — an Integrity Checker and a Data Migration Checklist — which identified all missing data and discrepancies, allowing MBank to correct them before go-live.

The full TrustBankCBS solution suite replaced all third-party systems previously in use, bringing MBank onto a single, unified platform with one technology partner for coordination and support.

This included:

  • C-KYC, Retail Banking, Loan Management, Deposit Management & Financial Accounting
  • Credit Bureau Integration
  • ATM, POS, E-com & Mobile Wallet
  • Clearing (Cheque Truncation System, Mandates Clearing System/ECS)
  • Mobile Banking App & IMPS Integration
  • Statutory Compliance Reporting (OSS, ALM, Audit Reports)
  • Agency Banking, GST Compliance, HRM & Payroll, and Business Intelligence

Beyond the core suite, TrustBankCBS’s open architecture and API-based platform enabled MBank’s own in-house IT team to build and launch self-service channels independently — including an Android-based mobile banking app integrated with the IMPS switch, mobile wallet, MicroATM, and QR code-based payments.

Post go-live, MBank also upgraded its RTGS/NEFT systems multiple times with Trust Fintech’s support, adopting Host-to-Host and Straight-Through-Processing platforms for instantaneous inter-bank transfers via improved Sponsor Bank services.

For GST Compliance, Trust Fintech delivered end-to-end taxation and returns support through its bank-specific SoftGST application, with a real-time GSP platform enabling straight-through GST return uploads with no manual intervention.

The HRM & Payroll module automates employee data management, configurable allowances and deductions, salary structure, staff loans and repayment demand, leave applications, and centralised salary generation — with system-generated vouchers auto-posted for all allowances, deductions, and salary expenses.

Multiple RTGS/NEFT upgrades brought MBank to modern, instantaneous transfer capabilities

Straight-through GST return processing eliminated manual filing effort

Bank-wide payroll and HR processes were automated and centralised for the first time

Conclusion

The Muslim Co-operative Bank’s experience shows that a core banking transformation is only as strong as the data beneath it. By prioritising Master Data Management from day one, TrustBankCBS didn’t just replace MBank’s fragmented legacy system — it gave the bank a clean, reliable, and open foundation to independently innovate on top of, from mobile banking to QR payments, while restoring confidence in its statutory compliance reporting.
